Philosophy

Since BUSHI opened its doors in May 1970, we have earned a reputation throughout the country as one of the best martial arts academies anywhere. We hold ourselves to the highest standards, and encourage our students to be the best that they can be. A BUSHI student never wonders why they received their belt, because every promotion is earned through hard work and consistent improvement. Through this diligent training our mission is to teach traditional martial arts and life skills, to drive the perfection of the person. Furthermore, the 6 core values we foster are: honor, truth, hard work, self-confidence, self-discipline and teaching others. These values learned at BUSHI go beyond the physical and into the mental and spiritual, and we promote them beyond the dojo doors.

Style

As a foundation, we at BUSHI practice Shotokan karate. Founded by Gichin Funakoshi at the beginning of the 20th century, Shotokan is practiced in more countries and by more people than any other style of martial arts. In addition, the use of Jujitsu and Aikijujitsu are laced through our defensive techniques to create a fluid, realistic system of self defense. We emphasize the intelligence of our training with the appropriate use of a mix of these different traditional Japanese martial arts to appropriately control a situation.

Class Structure

Men, women and children can avail themselves of unlimited classes. One of the advantages in training at the BUSHI Dojo is that beginner through advanced students, can all train at the same time, giving all the students an opportunity to role model a possible world champion. BUSHI being very family oriented allows adults and children to train at the same time, which gives the whole family the opportunity to train together.
